God gives us free will. Will is at the center of our being. Dallas Willard describes four parts of our total being, like four concentric circles: will/spirit in the deepest center of the four, mind (thoughts, emotions, social relationships), body next and soul as the encompassing outer circle. When one of these four is dis-functional, the other three are affected. We need to become “a new creation” – one that is rearranged into a person whose deep roots drink from the living water provided for us by God. It starts with our innermost part – our own will. This cannot be our kingdom….it belongs to God. He is the king, not us. We must learn to be content when we don’t get what we want. Once we realign ourselves in the proper order, we can function as God intended.
