Forgiving a Destroyer

I’m often overwhelmed by a relative’s fogiveness of the person who killed a loved-one of theirs. It would be so hard for me to do that. Jesus responded to Peter’s question about the number of times a person should forgive. “Seven times?” Peter asked. Jesus replied, “Seventy times seven” – a reference to unlimited forgiveness. What would such forgiveness entail? To carry bitterness forever is worse than the original pain. We have great memories of our loved-one’s life before their passing. Bitterness is not a fruit of the spirit. Forgiving does not mean that you ever must excuse the pain they caused nor having to begin a relationship with that person. All it means is that you stop regurgitating the poison that is like reflux in your soul.
