We need to avoid placing too much of our faith in another individual for help. We need to mainly focus on God through prayer and His Word. We need to crowd out the negative thoughts and the people who bring those out in us. Only surround yourself with positive people. They will provide nourishment. Negative people will foster spiritual starvation. He is a jealous God. He will give us the freedom to seek others’ counsel, yet will always be there when we humbly return to Him and beg for His forgiveness at not giving all our cares to Him. Dallas Willard calls it “putting all our eggs in God’s basket, not in another’s basket as we seek spiritual nourishment.”
