Feelings, nothing more than feelings….

…..as the song went. But we can’t seem to stop resisting feelings, as Dallas Willard said. Rather than replacing or changing them, we would just rather not resist them. Let them happen. We want what we want when we want it. The truth is, we don’t need to fulfill feelings. We humans have the power of reasoning, unlike the animal world which is mainly instinctive. These feelings are usually the result of underlying conditions – anger or bitterness, even hatred; discouragement, often caused by past injuries. We can even hide them a little – but there ends up being no joy. The first step toward recovery? Decide on love and joy vs. discouragement and hatred. Love is not infatuation…..love is a decision not to be ruled only by attraction. Joy is long-term, happiness is fleeting. Decide to reason.
