Tolerance

We keep hearing that we need to be more tolerant; tolerant of what – a different point of view? That depends. If the differing point of view is sinful we’re not to be tolerant. We need to confront that sin. Freedom does not include the right to falsely yell “fire!” in a crowded theater. We can embrace the right to differing political views – but not to property destruction by rioters who then beg that we be tolerant of their protest. Criticism of British tolerance of Hitler’s early rise in popularity still exists today. We need to teach the knowledge of good and evil. How is it that the teaching or moral laws has disappeared from our universities and been replaced by restrictions on free speech. The free exchange of knowledge and ideas is the hallmark of a free society.
