God went along with the demands of His people for divorce – mainly to protect the innocent spouse from further abuse. But divorce was never God’s desire or plan. Even when no longer married, that spouse will continue to suffer abuse from others. The desire once felt by both parties can fade because of our sin. Love is a decision made through your will. Our will can become a prison for our desires, which are rarely good for us. Wives require kindness; husbands require respect. When these are missing, we are forgetting the vow we made at the alter. That vow was to obedience to God and we gave that up for our own desires. One bite of the apple at a time.
