Don’t worry – be happy, sings the chorus of a famous song. Easier said than done – right? We’ve all been in “the pit” at some point in our lives. When we manage to get out, are we happy? Maybe briefly. Happiness is fleeting because it is based on circumstances. Joy is a decision to live life with a calm and peaceful attitude – not trying to control all outcomes. Often, we have to wait for joy to transcend mere temporary happiness. This waiting involves decisions – we decide we will not be impatient, our life will move ahead with a new purpose, we allow our faith to be stretched and we develop spiritual disciplines to help us overcome obstacles in our path to joy. We will be tested along the way – so we need to strengthen our faith and not just try to control our own little kingdoms. Others will try to harm you – go to God and ask for his rescue but we need to be patient in awaiting his timetable and methods. Don’t let your mind be trapped by negative thoughts along your journey.
