Words That Get Us In Trouble

The New Testament book of James describes the damage that can be done by such a small part of the body, the tongue. It can be the “spark that sets the forest on fire.” James goes on to say man can tame many animals, but cannot tame their own tongue. What the tongue spews out begins in the heart. Anger and bitterness, jealousy and envy, are delivered by the tongue. James says, “Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing.” Desire is conceived in emotions and enters the heart. “When desire is conceived in the heart, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is full-grown, it leads to spiritual death,” James says. But he also has a solution – “be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” This will keep us from being polluted by the world.
