The Third Fruit

When Paul listed the fruit of The Spirit, the first two are on everyone’s list, I’m sure. Love and joy. The third is like the first two – he mentions peace. Exactly what is peace? Well, let’s look first at what it is not. It is not conflict with another. It is not inner turmoil – or bitterness – or worry. Can we say it is the presence of blessing? I think so. Peace also involves a certain amount of order in our life – right? A tranquility that only God can grant. It’s hard to be peaceful when we – or our loved ones- are not healthy. Just recently, a bright, young pro football player named Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest on the field after making a solid, but routine, tackle. America was in the grip of a feeling of emptiness, praying for that young athlete who overcame poverty to excel in football. Not until word came out that God had spared this young man and that he may possibly live a normal rest of his life could many Americans like me be at peace. Prosperity is another gift that can bring peace. But how do we each define prosperity? Wealth? Not always important. Let’s worship the Prince of Peace – our Lord and Savior, Jesus. It is His peace that passes ALL understanding!
