Shelter From The Storm

When I was twelve I experienced a tornado that hit Fargo, ND while visiting my grandparents. My grandmother previously had both legs amputated so going down into the coal cellar wasn’t an option. I had learned about tornadoes the month before in school and I knew that in the Midwest they generally flow southwest to northeast. I had seen the gray funnel in the west against the black sky so I ran to the house. The newscaster said the tornado was coming down 4th Ave. North on the west side of town. Their home was on 4th Ave. North on the east side of town. I told my parents what I learned and said we needed to get us all in the car and head directly south. On the radio we learned a little later that the funnel had lifted and touched down again further north. We drove through on of the neighborhoods and several homes were completely gone. One had only a bathtub hooked to the water pipe left. The house 80 feet to the side was not missing a shingle! My grandparents home was not damaged. We can’t ignore the coming storms in our life. This applies to more than just weather or earthquakes, but also to the emotional side of our lives. Who can you trust for help in such a time? Be sure to seek knowledge and advice but don’t forget Whom you can always rely on – our Creator God.
