Not all of our efforts result in success. The Apollo 13 mission was a failure – sort of like The Endurance Antarctic expedition. In both cases every member returned home safely, although Shackleton’s crew suffered over eighteen months of hardship before being rescued. When they took off, both crews knew they were on a dangerous mission with the possibility of not returning. How did both mission rescues happen? The Apollo 13 crew trusted Houston to find the best possible solution. They knew who was examining the options. So did The Endurance crew. They trusted who was in control. Apollo 13 = Mission Control. The Endurance = the ship’s captain, although there were a few sailors who briefly resisted his orders. The key here is to know the one giving the advice. They are the ones with the authority needing to be respected. So let’s follow wisdom and authority.
