The Division Bell was the fourteenth album from Pink Floyd, released in 1994. It’s a collection of music and lyrics which identify the break we must all make as we move from our youth into the world as it will become. That’s because it is constantly changing. Our “High Hopes” turn to pondering “The Endless River” of life. Forces beyond us move the world ever forward, but often “sleepwalking back again.” The bell refers to the bell which rings in British Parliament calling for a vote. Every member must make a choice. We, too, must make choices in our life as to when we cross the bridge over The Endless River – or when we get in the boat and follow it for awhile. Our former High Hopes are often dashed, or at least challenged. How do we respond? The apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians Chapter 13: “When I was a child, I used to speak as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. (look up photo of the album cover); now I know in part, but then I shall know fully just as I also have been fully known. But now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
